Lest I be misunderstood -- I would have misunderstood my message if I
had read it first, instead of desperately hitting send fast enough to
catch up on my posts -- my comment about mothers doing better at home
was meant to be a general statement about multiples rather than a
statement about these or any preemie babies. I don't do preemies,
either, and am learning a lot from how Teresa's grandson is being
supported (or not) in hospital. My point was that sometimes mothers of
multiples find the hospital situation stressful, and become discouraged
about breastfeeding. Letting them know that no matter how bad the
hospital situation is, breastfeeding can get back to normal at home is
helpful. Helping them gather a support system around them at home, well
before the birth, is also useful. Obviously, not discharging them until
they are physically ready makes good sense.
I have a related question:
Can somebody help me with what definition is used to determine whether a
baby is "breastfeeding well" enough to be discharged at their
institutions?
