The scheduling of feeds may not always be taboo?!
I often receive calls from frazzled parents seeking advice on coping with
the irritable, fussy baby that insists on fdng. virtually around the clock.
After exploring all other possible causes I often deduce that the baby is
simply overfeeding, interpreting this discomfort as "hunger" and insists on
fdng. again, which begins to cycle. I usually advise parents to "schedule"
the baby at this point ie. increase the interval between fds. my advice is
usually feed no more often than q2hrs. Most often, this works; the parents
are oh so grateful and the baby, at that point, often HAPPILY spaces the
feedings even more towards a timing determined by his hunger rather than
discomfort.
I have to assume that those of you that work with large numbers of Moms and
babes must be consulted regarding this type of problem, if not "scheduling"
than how do you advise?
