I don't know of any "how to" manuals for the promotion of breastfeeding to low income women. However, Best Start's research shows what barriers low income women are concerned with and what they say they need to have happen in order for them to breastfeed successfully.
The "Loving Support" research was done as the basis for the "WIC National Breastfeeding Promotion Project" for USDA/FNS/WIC. The "Loving Support" client education materials, public information pieces and implementation strategies are an intregal part of WIC's work to increase breastfeeding in the low-income population for the United States.
The research brief is available from Best Start. You may also be able to read a copy of it through your State WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator. Most of them have a copy of the research. You may also read about the project on-line at www.social-marketing.org under the "Success Stories" page of the website.
