This may be a rather frivolous question for LactNet, since it deals with fictional characters on a TV show, but it IS a VERY popular TV show.
A main character, a female surgeon, "Dr. Elisabeth Corday" recently had a baby, and is now back at work. Past shows have hinted at the difficulties she is having in combining breastfeeding and work (actually, its really about working and having a young infant - but they keep mentioning breastfeeding). One espisode had her leaking into her surgical gown while operating, "breaking the sterile field" and being ordered to go pump, and get out of the surgery.
This week she had 3 patients die of post-op infection, and she is being tested to see if she is the source. This included cultures being taken of her nose, throat, vagina, and her breastmilk! Also the babies stools are being tested!
Could someone explain what is going on, and is this reasonable? We viewers are afraid the fact she is breastfeeding (and leaking) may be blamed for this, and would like to possibly write-in ahead of time to educate the show writers.
