What IS the correct name?>

Tabers makes it clear that frenum is a generic term and frenulum lingae
is the specifically correct term for this structure.

From Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary-
frenum -A fold of mucous membrane that connects two parts, one more or
less movable, and serves to check the movement of this part. (see
frenulum)

frenulum linguae-Fold of mucous membrane that extends from the floor of
the mouth from the interior surface of the tongue along its midline.

Hope this is helpful,
Karen Ianacone, RN, MA, CCE, CLC
