Greetings... We do not do test weights in our Level II NICU. We use what
we call the "Iowa City Protocol" for supplementing after breastfeeding as
needed. The protocol states that:
if baby nurses less that 5 min., give entire feeding volume
if baby nurses well for 5-10 min, give half the prescribed volume
if baby nurses well for 10 min. or more, no supplement is needed.
