Just a guess - but I think Tony probably meant that electric pumps are not
easy to get because they are EXPENSIVE!! I think we all know that they are
out there, and certainly in the UK people know that too. But I know here on
the border people often can't afford a manual pump much less electric. When
I help a mother who needs a pump for one reason or another I usually try
WIC, but even their electric pumps are not allowed for everyone (that's
another discussion). Rental sounds affordable, but again, there are the
costs of the deposits and kits. Very few people have credit cards
available. In our practice, ove 90% of all mothers easily qualify for
Medicaid or Title V and few have much extra income. Most mothers happily
accept bus tokens to get here, and hungrily accept donations of food and
baby items. Lets get real!
