Breastfeeding needs no defense. It has a long track record of safety--no
mass recalls that I have heard recently. Instead we should be asking what
creative microbes, genetically modified things are in a can of formula. We
can no longer say that infant formula is just some milk and vitamins.

It is a special creation brought to us by our ever-inventive biotechs. We
now have various cloned organisms in formulas. I realize that infant formula
has always been an experiment with constant modifications done in order to
align it closer to human milk. But I believe this has gotten out of hand.
Genetic engineering is realtively new to this world. (started in 1972) We are
experimenting on infants with this new science.

I imagine my post on that patent for probiotic bifidobacterium strain in
Carnation Good Start has a few people a little worried. We, breastfeeding
advocates, have no reason to defend breastfeeding. It is time that the
infant formula industry start explaining to the people what they are putting
in formula and let the people decide whether they want to risk their
children's lifes on substances unknown.
