If memory serves me (and it's Friday so who knows!?), ILCA or someone up
there in the lactation movement, is holding meetings with JCAHO in order to
formalize some sort of expectations in their survey about breastfeeding.
Somewhere up this long road we've been trudging, I think help may come in
the form of JCAHO, because hospitals pay attention to noone like they pay
attention to THEM! Personally, though, they were here at our hospital in
March, and though I was at the meeting of staff and managers with them, they
didn't ask me a single question. As far as I could tell, they didn't check
out our breastfeeding routines, status, charting or anything! So it must be
personal knowledge and opinions of the examiners at this point that
determine whether they quiz you about it at your facility or not.
