Someone once pointed out to me that the interference with clearing the
generalized swelling (perhaps competition with ADH for binding sites,
since there is chemical similarity) also leaves the brain with some
swelling, and results in temporarily altered thinking in new postpartum
mothers.

Eventual diuresis then allows thought processes to get back to a better
state.  IME, mothers who get lots of pitocin sometimes take up to 10-14
days for significant diuresis to occur.

Which brings up a question about whether there has been any research on
whether PPD statistics are markedly different between these mothers and
those who birth without such interventions?
