Don't know about training, although I have seen course listings in RN
publications on Spanish for the Healthcare Professional. Our hospital has
purchased (rented, leased?) a phone with two hand sets, one for HCP and one
for non-English speaking pt., and you call a translator in multiple
languages who listens to what you want to say to pt., translates, listens to
pt. response, translates back to you. It is called a "Cryaphone," and as I
am at home right now, I have no further information on contacts. It has
been extremely helpful, and is really quite simple, non-interfering, and
time-saving since I just have to get the phone, not find a busy nurse to
help me.
I see that you are in NJ, and I am also. Please send private email if you
want to call me at work.
