Marci,
I realize most of what you wrote reflected your personal experience and choices, but I wonder about this comment, as it is a generalization which seems to be based on nursing your own children. I had a terrible overactive MER w/ my dd, but she learned to comfort-nurse, nursed well at night (lying across my chest all night) and nursed until 5yr. This was also many years ago--when there was no info about OAMER, but we just figured out answers through trial and error. Since then, I have come across other moms whose situation was like mine. I would venture to guess that your common experiences w/ each of your children is a reflection on the fact that you probably used a similar approach to the problem w/ each child. The other thing for me is that I solved the problem while nursing her and did not have it w/ nursing again (nor did I w/ my first baby). What I am saying is that I realize all of your babies weaned early and had difficulty nursing at night, but I would not extrapolate !
from that experience a descripti
on all mothers/babies experiencing OAMER.
