# my daughter is allergic to strawberries (no protein). My other
daughter is allergic to rice. My son is allergic to ragweed. No, they
don't have to be protein. #

I heard a mom telling that her child tolerated white strawberries
although not red ones, and interestingly, my son who reacts to
strawberries, also spits out red water melon and refuses it, but
eagerly eats yellow water melon :) . If I remember correct, citruses,
strawberries and chocolate (cocoa) don't actually cause 'allergy', but
they launch production of histamin in the body (of some ppl), and
that's why some ppl get rash or red spots after eating those. However,
the treatment is the same as with allergies, avoiding those foods.
Strawberries have very little protein, 0.5 g/100 g (I have no idea
what is 'ragweed'), but rice does have protein, ~ 6 - 8g/100 g.
Latex/rubber allergy is a nasty one, since one can get symptoms e.g.
from handling an apple which someone touched with gloved hands.
