Dear Lactnet,
I have been following a third time mom with latch and milk supply issues.
She takes Aldomet/Methyldopa (1500 mg daily) and Topral/Metoprolol (dosage
unknown) for high blood pressure that she has mainly experienced in all of
her pregnancies and months of breastfeeding.
Her BP shot up to 180/120 the other evening. The baby is 5 weeks now.
She has asked me why or if there is a correlation between lactation and
elevated/high BP. She feels that it has something to do with prolactin. She
is followed closely by a nephrologist who wants to change her meds to include
an ACE inhibitor. How would you answer?
