Two articles have been referenced regarding the DHA/AA "breakthrough" in
infant formula. Both these articles are disgusting. The Jane Brody article
was so sickening I only made it through the first 3 paragraphs. This is just
plain sloppy, poor journalism. It is also an excellent example of damning
with faint praise! Nowhere in the article is it mentioned that this
breakthrough is actually just an attempt to FIX a gross DEFECT.

"DHA levels in breast milk of American women are among the lowest in the
world, said Dr. Barbara Levine, co-director of the human nutrition program
at Rockefeller University in New York. So some nursing mothers who consume
little or no fatty fish may want to supplement their babies' diets with
DHA-enriched formula when it becomes available."

now formula is BETTER than breast milk! Apparently, FF'd infants also "grow
faster" than BF'd infants. This in a country where childhood obesity and
diabetes are absolutely epidemic.

Is anyone else as discouraged about this? Admittedly I am crotchety in my
first trimester; but I can't help acting like the fox that lost the grapes.
Good! let fewer women breastfeed. I hope they turn to formula is droves! It
will only serve to make my normal, average breastfed infant seem downright
exceptional!

Sorry.
