Dear Lactnetters and Liz B,
At our hospital, we are beginning to look at using an informed consent for
infant feeding, so that all moms would receive the same, the accurate, the
research based information. Then once they have made their choice and
declared it to staff, we can respect and support them, regardless. And no
more wondering whether a mom got the info or not, also no more hesitation by
staff who don't want to "make her feel guilty".
My question is, does anyone know of lawsuits that have been filed by
parents who felt that information was withheld from them about the risks of
formula feeding? I don't want to threaten staff, on the other hand, I know
for sure that people will "latch onto" informed consent if they feel it will
protect them as health workers.
thanks in advance from
