Cynthia said: Motherhood is the most profound
invitation to personal growth that I have ever experienced, that I imagine
I will ever experience, and that I ever found the courage to accept.
Amen to that! And just when I think I understand this "motherhood" job,
another situation rears its head and sends me off to the library, to find
"wise women" and to toss and turn and think about at 3 am!
Same with Lactation, Nursing or whatever job involves human beings. Today
I met a mom whose whole life is such a shambles: domestic violence, older
child abused, she was abused as a child, grandmother just died and sister
she's living with is in the middle of a divorce and selling the house they
share. All I could do was help her with her very sore nipples thanks to a
lot of nipple feeding (thank you Diane Weisinger and Linda Smith - we
talked about latch and how to get a deeper latch, I showed with my hands a
"centered", "sandwich" and a "compressed sandwich and deep latch"). By the
time I left, baby was latched on beautifully without my help... but I felt
very humbled at all the work she and the Public Health Nurse were now going
to deal with!
