Oh, lordy, Jan, you blew me away with the brochure on the pacifier. Which
brings me to my question. My kids refused pacifiers, and talking with a
couple of other moms who bf, they said their kids also refused, but in
retrospect, the moms were former Americans like I. Israeli moms are
ADDICTED to pacifiers, and I am at wit's end trying to talk them out of
them. Do you have the stomach to listen to my anecdotes about mom
dropping the pacifier, putting it in her mouth to "clean" it, and
sticking it back into baby's mouth? Yuck.
Is there any research or study into pacifier use, breastfed vs bottlefed
babies? I have an ongoing debate with a cardiologist from the department:
he thinks that breastfed babies use a pacifier MORE, and further, that
later in life, they will be MORE likely to be smokers (I hope to research
this together with him). A Medline search gave me zippo. My gut instinct
is that he is wrong, but my guts have betrayed me before...... Anybody help?
