I believe, also, when thinking of cup feeding and finger feeding, that many
alternate feeding practices are done in countries such as Sweden. I know
that K. Hedbert Nyqvist has great success with getting babies in her NICU
in Sweden to breastfeed, and I do not believe that bottles are used much.
There is so much to be learned from countries that have a great track
record in getting NICU babies to breastfeed.
Here is one reference that is used:
Hedberg Nyqvist, K., & Strandell, E. (1999). A cup feeding protocol for
neonates: Evaluation of nurses' and parents' use of two cups. Journal of
Neonatal Nursing, 5(2), 31-36.
