<The screening tool they used was called the "Edinburgh Postnatal Depression
Score." >
This is a widely used ten question screening tool.
The original ref is:
Cox JL et al. Detection of postnatal depression : development of the 10-item
Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Br J Psychiatr 1987; 150: 782-6.
This article includes the questions.
This was one of the tools I used in assessing women with nipple pain. I
found that women with pain also score as "depressed". (Amir et al.
Psychological aspects of nipple pain in lactating women. J Psychosom Obstet
Gynecol 1996; 17: 53-58.)
Perhaps a better term would be postnatal distress, as women in pain,
sleep-deprived, etc, will also score in the high range.
