Here's my personal case study of two.
I didn't have gestational diabetes (diagnosed) but I have PCOS which has
hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance associated with it. I didn'thave a
GTT in either pregnancy. The first pg I had a post prandal blood sugar which
was normal, and the second one I was throwing up again so I made a deal with
my ob/gyn and just went on a diabetic diet anyway.
First babe: Birthweight 4800g (10lb 10oz). Born by elective C/S (no prizes
for guessing why). Lost about 15% of birthweigh in hospital. Regained
birthweight by 4 weeks
STILL a child (3yrs) that is over the 97th percentile for weight and height
Second Babe: Elective C/S - BW 4050g. Spent 1 week in NICU with hyaline
membrane disease. Given that horrid white stuff down the feeding tube for
about two days, plus colostrum. At 11 days was 4.22kg so I guess probably
got back to birthweight around day 8-9 (not there at discharge). Still big.
ON the 97th for height and weight at 2yo.
