When I was a student NP I was practicing Denver developmentals on any baby
I could nab. Found one about 8-9 mo old, who was baby sat by a mom with
a BF baby of similar age. Baby sitter was concerned about his lack of
gross motor development and got permission from mom for me to evaluate. He
was of those placid non complaining babies who handily flunked the motor
parts of DD. Basic problem was that he sat in a bucket for about 7 of 8
hours every day at sitters. (She was a young first time mom). When I
pointed out to her that tummy time on a blanket on the floor would cure his
problems she began enthusiastically. He was turning over by end of week!
Have seen babies with same sort of motor lag who sit in those play table
things for too long periods of time. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
