I am a hospital-based lactation consultant (and former NICU nurse)in the
NICU of a large teaching hospital in Boston. In preparing for a talk I
will be giving in September on reimbursement, I am compiling information on
the current state of reimbursement as it pertains to lactation services and
supplies. I would appreciate any information on what people are doing with
regard to reimbursement for inpatient as well as outpatient lactation
services, banked breastmilk, and the purchase or rental of
breastpumps/supplies. Please include any information related to billing
codes, forms and documentation you currently use for reimbursement, as well
as the rates at which you are being reimbursed. I will, of course, be
happy to give you credit for your information in my talk. I'm basically
trying to put together a "how-to" resource guide for reimbursement of
lactation services and supplies. Anything anyone could share about what
works ... what doesn't ... would be greatly appreciated and helpful to
all. Thank you. Kathy Howard, RN, BSN, IBCLC, Boston, MA
