Dear Lactnuts:
I write a monthly-or-so newsletter for the hospital for which my
company provides LC services. This month, I'd like to focus on the growing
trend of combining breast and bottle feeding. I thought that this was a
mother-issue. However, last week someone tacked onto the breastfeeding info.
bulletin board a magazine clipping that includes a photo of a bottle and the
statement that "mixing breast and bottle feeding is perfectly okay."
I'd love to hear any suggestions for tackling this issue in a manner
that is fresh and less likely to be met with defensiveness and derision. It
seems that as breastfeeding rates inch up, but exclusive breastfeeding slides
down, the "mixed" feeding is becoming more and more prevalent.
How do you discuss this with mothers? With hospital staff Other
HCPs? Love to have your thoughts!
