Kathleen said: People will also have to pay for
formula if they don't breastfeed, even on WIC, so the issue of
affordability is not really the issue, I find.
----------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately women say it all the time- "I can't afford to keep going back
to the IBCLC". Maybe they mean in terms of time and stress as well as
money, but I think some women really believe it. It's almost like paying
for formula is a given cost of having a baby- after all, many speak in
terms of $$ *saved* by breastfeeding. They don't speak in terms of money
spent on formula, or money not wasted on formula. (when it's a voluntary
thing.)
When I read about dioxen level in humans, cows, the world, I often wonder
how much lower those levels would be in the abscence of formula
manufacturing, packaging, shipping and bottle feeding. There is an
environmental cost to all that production. (notice, I didnt' say "we save
all those environmental costs when we breastfeed.)
