I had to add in my 2 cents worth here. I feel that I have a fairly unique
perspective here on the two of them. I am a LC Intern the blueprints pilot
project, a LLLL, and a Breastfeeding counselor at WIC. NEVER would I pass
myself off as certified. Infact, I always assure anyone that I come into
contact with the if I don't know the answers, then I know people, or
resources that I can turn to, to try and find the answers. As a LLLL I
went thru more than a year of training to become an Accredited LLLL.
Truthfully, I am a bit taken aback that someone would consider the CLE a
certification. I do not feel that an IBCLC should be there just to clean
upp the train wrecks. I enjoy the coubnseling part of it. I enjoy
boosting a new mom's confidence. I have had mom's open up to me about
fears and concerns that they had not expressed to anyone yet. This is a
big part of WHY I want to be a part of this profession and I don't want
anyone doing this for me because I'm "too busy". I do think that a CLE
could have its place, but I do not feel that it is just an exam away from
an IBCLC. The instrusctor who said this, I wonder If there is a goverining
body that she could be reported to?
OK, I guess that this was more than 2 cents, but this really struck a nerve
with me......
