Regarding milk "foaming" in the pump. Is she using Medela? I have
found that turning the yellow piece with the white membrane so that
the membrane faces mom instead of away from her avoids that
problem. Since many moms don't sit absolutely upright (especially
if pumping shortly after delivery), if the membrane is facing away,
the milk has to travel "uphill" before going into the bottle. It
tends to back up and sometimes create "foam". By turning it to face
the mom, the milk runs down and I haven't seen the foaming problem.
In fact, I teach all the nurses to switch the position of the yellow
piece/ membrane every time she starts a mom pumping.
Just my observations.
