I feel so saddened by this story.  I know my situation can't compare, but my
mother died suddenly at a relatively young age (67), I found my greatest
comfort in breastfeeding and being needed by my youngest, who was 2 at the
time.  Hopefully, as someone else said, there will be a supportive family
member or friend who can encourage this woman to continue to breastfeed and
seek comfort in her relationship with her baby.  About the Syntocinon
spray - this was used prolifically when I was a young midwife 30 years ago,
but I haven't heard anything about it in many years now.
