update.:
Mom and baby still hospitalized: Prof. explained to her that evidently the baby cannot break down certain elements in her food (proteins and sugars). including breastmilk. He claims that the formulas are already broken down and that is why they were using them. He explained to her that there are hairs in the intestine that have been damaged because of the diarrhea. After the mom queried over the fact that she wanted this baby bf, the dr. said that she could bf her for 5 minutes on each side for one meal and give her a water solution for the next to prevent dehydration. The mom also told me that they were sweetening the formula with saccharin (which sounded to me like the equivalent of poison, but maybe it is just my non-familiarity with hospital procedures?????) when questioned, the dr. assured her it wasn't the cancerous kind. Baby still exhibiting signs of diarrhea, and still dropping in weight. We are hoping that now that she will be able to bf maybe she will again start climbing.
could this all be a reaction to daktarin??? thrush?
thanks and will keep you posted.
