Forgot to explain the "donkey manure" in the subject line.  In Mali, mothers
would let children sit on the ground and eat donkey manure, which children
seemed to prefer over any other animal waste that was lying around (chicken,
goat, etc.).  Mothers seemed totally unconcerned about children chomping on
the donkey manure.  I know, because I tried a number of times to take it
away from infants and toddlers, and mothers would just laugh at me.
