Nancy Holtzmann posts on a mother with severe diarrhea who is considering
supplementing for the first time, because she is so exhausted herself.
I would have tried to determine what other support was available (or not) to
the mother. I also would have let her know that her baby didn't get sick
BECAUSE she was breastfeeding during her own illness.
I also would suggest that the mother drink some of her own freshly expressed
breastmilk, as it is likely to help her gut recover much faster.
This must be suggested in a way that doesn't scare her or make her think
you're nuts!
Cheers

who had Campylobacter followed immediately by Giardia lamblia, while
breastfeeding, and the child, aged two and a half, never even had a loose
stool, despite being the likely source of my infection. (I lost 10 pounds
in less than a week, but I wouldn't recommend it as a slimming trick.)
