I'd say this mom ought to be in bed (and on sick leave if she's a working
mom), just caring for herself and baby and have someone else do the
household. Just like when having a severe flu or a broken leg. Who is ill
should be bed and rest. It's not more than normal to be weak and exhausred
with severe gut problems.
I don't see this as a bf problem.
