Just wanted to comment on Kim's personal experience with GBS. I too work NICU, and normal newborn / mother baby wards in the past and can also tell stories of the " looks OK send it out to mom" babies. GBS is a very quick KILLER. Kim was lucky, in that there was trained (NICU) staff close at hand.

Having worked is some VERY small country hospitals where those services were 45-miles away, I was glad we had a GBS policy, and that it was enforced by some really good nurses. Yes some babies never get sick, and it may be inconvenient for some, but what is worse. A little extra time in the hospital, thrush and or some minor side effects, where you can eventually take your baby home. Or to leave a hospital with"empty arms" that are never filled with that child again.

What is the old saying " an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" or in this case, a baby's life.

Just my 2 cents worth.
Ann
