My thoughts on reading the summary of that study was that the women involved
seemed to not have enough good help with latching, since most of them were
experiencing pain. When a baby is latched on well, nursing more than ten
times a day isn't going to cause nipple trauma. I think this is also the
reason that partial bottle-feeding seemed to increase the duration of
breastfeeding - if the latch isn't good, and your nipples hurt, and the baby
perhaps isn't getting enough milk, then giving some bottles may make it
possible to endure this longer. But giving bottles and limiting feedings
aren't the solution - fixing the latch is!
