Interesting posts, everyone!
Before I begin, I must identify myself as new to the
lactation field. I am not an authority; I just have
an idea to kick around.
When I worked the med/surg area, it was common to give
nifedipine sublingually (pierce capsule and squeeze
contents out under the tongue, then have patient
swallow capsule and remaining contents). This was
done to deliver the drug more rapidly as treatment for
hypertensive crisis. Could this method be used for
Reynaud's/vasospasm of the nipple? Perhaps SL
delivery, shortly before a feeding, would provide
desired effects at a lower dosage. Any input or
discussion about this would be welcomed!
Second topic: hydrogels. Does anyone have any
information from Dr. Thomas Hale on the safety of
ingredients in hydrogels for bfing infants? Have a
friend whose current concern is the use of
propylene/polypropylene glycols (he thinks they should
be banned!). I trust Dr. Hale as an authority; my
trust in the 'net is tinged with caution!!
Thanks!
