Dear Kathleen,
I have acted as a preceptor for several LCs and LC aspirants. Yes, it
takes more time than working alone, BUT, I feel strongly that there should be
a clinical supervision componant to LC practice. I admire those who seek out
opportunities to gain experience, despite the lack of requirement. So, I am
happy to work with them.
I agree that timing is problematic as there is usually not much notice
before appointments. I hope that opening the Breastfeeding Center will
change all that. I give the option of paying for hours or doing work/study
where they do filing, computer work, billing etc for me. So far, everyone's
chosen work study, which is fine by me!
When we open the Breastfeeding Center, we plan to offer internships
that will include both hospital rounds and post-partum out-patient follow-up.
Just waiting for that flood of grant money....
