Personal experience. I've had two 11 pounders, one C-sect and 3 weeks early
(would have been State record in 3 more weeks! Never had a problem with
milk supply. Can't remember how well they gained, but if pooping and peeing
are OK, don't see what the worry is. I would avoid formula at ALL costs,
since it predisposes to diabetes. Would check mom's medical condition, i. e.
thyroid. Would suggest another medical opinion. Instead of ferocious
pumping, would suggest breast massage and compression.

Thankful that my 4 breastfed children show no signs of the diabetes that
runs strongly on both sides of the family. Incidentally, my other 2 were 9.6
and 10.3 lbs. respectively.
