I'm pretty thick skinned too, I think, but the
absolutism that comes up in the
dairy discussion bothers me. I love cheese. Cow's
milk is great with
brownies. My daughter loves cow's milk, but does not
have it ad. lib. I
respect anyone's right to not drink milk or to drink
it, and believe that most
milkable animals offer us the same sort of milk,
overall. (meaning that goat's
milk is likely not devoid of dairy "issues".)
OTOH, "substitutes" bother me, especially heavily
processed substitutes. and I
also worry that sometimes too much of another product
is substituted for the
avoided product. A balanced diet is always best,
isnt' it?
I loathe soy milks, soy "meats"- but I also seem to be
unable to digest those
types of soy. Love tofu and fermented soy though. I
really do want my right
to not drink soy to be accepted, just as people want
their right to not drink
milk accepted.
I'm also from Scandanavian heritage so maybe that's
why I feel just fine with
the small dairy consumption I have.
So- does WIC respond to the needs of lactose
intolerant or vegan moms?
