Attention Lactnetters, especially those in CANADA;
Have you seen the current ZELLERS Dept. Store's NATIONAL flyer [ Jan.27 to
Feb. 8th] titled " What's best for my baby" ? Its a 2 week sale flyer, 12
pages in length. It includes mini boxes of info with "helpful tips"
regarding "car seat safety", "taking medication during pregnancy", and
"feeding tips".
On page 4 under "Baby feeding tips" I was very upset to find a discussion on
disposable bottle feeding systems:
" The disposable bottle feeding system provides a germ-free way to feed your
baby. Disposable bottles provide a feeding system that minimizes air intake,
which greatly reduces gas and other discomforts that may affect your baby.
Some people find the reusable bottle a more convenient and economical choice
to feed their baby. If you decide to use this system, you should try to
select one that offers the best health benefits and is the most convenient
for you. "
Well---what about BREASTFEEDING !!!
This got me steaming mad, and so I decided to make a call, as the website :
www. Zellers.com doesn't connect up for me today, and I felt a personal call
would be better...
I just got through finally to Ms. Shauna Frost, who works directly with the
VP / Marketing for Zellers, and she also works directly with Mr. Thomas
Haig---President of Zellers [here in Canada]. She has promised me to look
into this matter, as I explained in great depths how "unbabyfriendly " this
was to place in a flyer titled " What's best for my baby"----or any other
flyer for that matter ! They were shocked about my mentioning of the WHO
code. Alot of their marketing is geared to families, and especially new
parents/parents to be. Since " BREAST is Best" and they are not [?]and
should not be promoting artificial feeding, I have asked for some feedback
on these concerns. Also, on page 7 of the flyer at the bottom of the page is
a picture of a mother cradling her new baby sitting in a glidder rocking
chair, and right beside it under 'baby health products" a large can of
N----e G--d S----t Powder formula. So I gave them my concerns about that,
too!
Has anyone else seen this flyer/info ?
Has anyone else called about their concerns ?
There is a customer service toll-free number
[ 1-888-226-2555 ] head office in Toronto
to call and voice your concerns to this company if you like.
Hopefully I am not the only one upset with this !
Sincerely [ but still "steaming" ] in Saint John, NB,
Barb Montague, RN IBCLC
