Up until a few years ago (three, I think) it was standard advice in my
training experience NOT to drink alcohol while bf - it never made sense
to me - there seemed to be no evidence that a little beer or wine could
possibly do any harm to a bf baby - and it seemed silly to me that people
spent SO much time and effort researching that idea.
On the one hand, I thought, for 25 or whatever years, lactation
consultants had been telling mothers to have a nice glass of wine or dark
beer to "relax" before bf - then all of a sudden, the "no alcohol"
policy. I interpreted it as yet another swing in the pendulum of bf
research - so we go again from one extreme to the other! (My gut feeling
is that, hopefully, most mothers will take some of our advice with a
grain of salt.)
That's my take!
