Hi all

I finally caught up on the various Baby Whisperer posts (thanks to a "heads
up" from Norma) and checked out her "babytec" website
http://www.babytec.com/octobertopic.htm

Her October topic is "Breast Milk," in which she discusses (among other
things) the composition of the milk. She refers to an article I wrote a few
years ago for LLLI's Leaven called "Finish the First Breast First"
(<http://www.lalecheleague.org/LVfinish.html>) based largely on Michael
Woolridge's article. Then she launches into a rather curious discussion of
the 3 types of breast milk: Quencher, Foremilk, and Hindmilk.

(according to her "logic," not mine):

Quencher is little more than water to whet the palette. Formilk is the
salad starter, and Hindmilk is what baby really needs. If baby feeds only
from Quencher and Foremilk then this signals the brain to only make that
kind of milk, not the good stuff (hindmilk). This causes a reduction in
supply which leads to a trip to the doctor's, who prescribes formula....

Then she gives her rules of bf success: get comfy first, make sure baby is
latched on correctly, "single side feed" not changing sides halfway so baby
gets the hindmilk (no explanation beyond this as to what she means by
single side feed), and then make sure you bf where there will be no
distractions like phones ringing or chatting to friends or reading her
article on the web (hmm.....)

I'm so glad she found my article such an "interesting point of reference"
and so glad that she is ever so qualified to be able to reinterpret
Woolridge's theories for all of us.

QUENCHER milk??
