>I was stumped today by a mom who is 2wks postpartum who reports a
>decrease in milk supply, so pumped to try to boost supply; observed
>bright red blood she described as "squirting" into the breastmilk; her
>nipples are not sore and are intact;
I had a client who had the same thing. It was revealed that she had the
pump turned up to max so that she could get out more milk. I suggested that
she stop pumping that side for a couple of days for the blood vessle to
heal and to turn the gauge to Med for the other side. She still fed the
baby on the affected side.
The problem was resolved within those two days.
I would recommend that she give the above treatment a couple of days for
healing before seeing the OB. From experience I have learned to wait a bit
before contacting someone may know very little about common problems of
breastfeeding.
