Before everyone does a jig around the room celebrating WHO recommending 6
months of exclusive breastfeeding -- PLEASE go read the actual statement.
It is much more complex and equivocal than just "OK, let's not start solids
til 6 months." In fact, that isn't what it says at all. It says that there
are advantages and disadvantages to starting solids at 6 months versus 4-6
months and that there is hardly any decent research on which to make a
clear-cut distinction between the health outcomes of these two different
policies on either the individual or the population level. It would be
totally inaccurate to claim that the WHO "now recommends everybody
exclusively breastfeed for 6 months."
