I am posting this because I just do not have any more ideas to give the
mother.
Baby is 4 months old, gaining beautifully. I saw mom at 6 weeks pp- she
was complaining of nipple pain. Baby was pinching the nipple lipstick
like, we corrected the latch and on one side got rid of the pinch, but were
not successful on the other side. We improved things, but could never
fully get it round. we tried tons of different postions, etc. Mother
called me at 10 weeks to say things were really much better, nowhere near
the discomfort of before. At 13 weeks she called complaining of sharp
breast pains after she feeds. It was only on one side, mainly under the
breast and on nipple. The same side we had more of a pinch on in the
begining. No evidence of thrush, although we treated anyway. No
improvement. I asked her to notice if nipples were white, she said when it
hurts minorly, sometimes. But the real major pain they are not white. She
tried Advil and warm compresses to help the pain, neither worked. She is
very frustrated because she says the pain wakes her up at night and then
she cannot fall back asleep. Again, it is only on right breast. I cannot
even think of anything else to tell her, and she is seriously considering
weaning.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
