<The blood one loses during menstruation is the shedding of the lining of the uterus, built up over
the previous month. It is not blood coming directly out of the bloodstream during your period. So
I don't think heavy exercise is going to do much to get any toxins into the bloodstream and out of
the body. Interesting idea though!>
About 7 - 8 years ago I saw a documentary about a woman (I believe a scientist) who had tested
menstrual blood for toxins, and posed the theory that menstruation is one way that the body does
clean itself. I have not been able to locate this research on the web; does anyone know more?
One association: a specialist in fasting in Austria, Dr. Erich Rauch, has written in his book about
intestinal cleansing that when women fast, and experience a flood of toxins from melting fat cells,
the women say that their menstrual blood is darker and smells very badly. He implied that just as
fasting persons may have a 'stinkier' sweat and breath, fasting women will find more toxins in their
menses.
