Sara,
In our area, LLL does receive the majority of post discharge breastfeeding
referrals. We get referrals from ped.s offices, ob offices, and even the
e.r. I quite often get calls from moms who are still in the hospital who
were given my number to get help w/ a problem. This was the case even
before I became an IBCLC. Our health care system has a data base for
community referrals, and we have been in it for several years. We (the
leaders) formed personal relationships w/ the doctors and nurses in our
area, basically just telling them what LLL does, and most are happy to
refer.
I use word of mouth to plug LLL anytime I'm at the doctor myself just by
saying "By the way, I wanted to let you know..."
Hope this helps.
Warmly,
Lisa Huntze, LLLL, IBCLC
