It has always been my contention that common sense should tell us 2 things.
First, if the companies are spending this much money on the promotional
materials, conferences, etc, then there isn't a whole lot of money going into
the product itself. To me, this is analogous to McDonald's, where I am
certain that the little plastic toys are worth more than the "food".

Secondly, marketing of this type is only necessary when the "product" would
not sell on its merits, but rather could only be sold through marketing
schemes, which are basically very expensive smoke and mirrors. Again, the
McDonald's analogy.

The problem is, it is working. Westerners routinely malnourish and drug their
kids from birth (oops, I mean labor).
