I have a 3 month old baby born 8 wks early who, after a swallowing study at
1 month of age was deemed unable to swallow breastmilk because it was too
thin. The parents were advised to give her formula thickened with rice
cereal. She had another swallowing study now at 3 months and has improved
but still cannot handle breastmilk. These parents very much want to give
their daughter breastmilk - mom has been pumping with a Lactina for the
past 3 months. They feel that they are at a crossroads as far as bfing is
concerned - another swallowing study is not scheduled for 2 more months.
Dad called me to see if there is any device they can use to slow down the
amt of milk going into baby's mouth. Any ideas for these dedicated
parents? Paula Pambianco
