I haven't posted in a long time, although I've been on Lactnet almost
from the beginning. My name is Pat Bucknell and I am in private practice
with a partner, working out of my home in Avon Lake OH--not far west of
Cleveland along Lake Erie. I have 6 breastfed children ranging in age
from 30 to almost 14.

I have a mom with a healthy, happy, thriving breastfed 2 month old. She
lives in an area where they are on well water. The water has very little
fluoride, they use a water softener, and the dad has installed an RO
machine (don't know what that is) but evidently it removes the salt from
softening and also the little bit of fluoride that's there. The pedi has
recommended mom give the baby fluoride drops because of the water
situation. Does baby need the drops? I searched the archives, but
couldn't find the specific situation I have. I know what the AAP says,
but isn't that statement assuming the mom uses fluoridated water?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA,
Pat
