Long-time lurker...first-time poster. I am a Pediatric and Family Nurse
Practitioner as well as IBCLC working in an Army hospital in El Paso,
Texas. I'm currently working with a Russian mom who, 6 to l0 years ago in
Russia, had "injections of "something" and water" in her breasts to make
them larger. The augmentation lasted less than one month and "something
and water" slowly hardened in some areas of her breasts, but went totally
away in other areas. I've searched the archives and find numerous posts on
implants...but none on "injections". Has anyone ever heard of this or know
what could have been injected. My thoughts were saline, silicone or fat
deposits...mom was adament it was not silicone.
Mom was very concerned re: safety of injection and opted to bottle feed,
but, changed her mind, when baby was l0 days old and she still had some
milk production even after using cabbage leaves for several days. I'm
working to increase mom's supply as well as transition baby to breast.
There are alot of other issues at play with this family, but I think if I
can definitely reassure mom re: injections, that may help some of the BF
issues.
Thanks for any guidance you may send my way.
